Wouldn’t it be nice to take the day off, quite literally. Sadly, the closest thing to that would be removing the days stresses from your skin using Clinique’s hero product; Take the Day Off. Personally, when it comes to removing make-up using a cleansing balm is an absolute must. I find that the balms really get into the skin and remove all the dirt, make-up yet still leave your skin feeling nourished and refreshed. Usually, I do double cleanse with the second cleanser being a water based one. The Cleansing Balm of choice at the moment has been the Clinique Take the Day Off.

The Clinique Take the Day off Cleansing Balm comes in a purple tub in a similar style to other products from the brand. As I said before, a Cleansing Balm is my got-to product to really get a full face of make-up removed and all the other grime that could be lurking on my skin. The Take the Day off Cleansing Balm once worked into the skin really lifts and melts the products then making it super easy to remove with a wet cloth.

I always measure how good a cleansing balm is by how efficient it can remove eyeliner, mascara and eye shadows and this passes the test. I’d say around 90% of product gets removed in the first cleanse around the eyes. It’s also worth mentioning it’s very gentle for around the eye area. I do have sensitive eyes so this factor is a must for me. The product also has quite a muted scent so that’s also a positive when using especially around the eyes.

Another factor you don’t want with any cleansing product and that is for it to dry out your skin. I’ve not had any problems with this and whilst it’s obviously not the most hydrating product, when used with the Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturiser, you’ve got an excellent combo. Okay, so I’m seriously loving this Oasis floral dress which I spotted on the House Of Fraser website. You might have seen this dress in my Friends Fest post but I’ve been wearing it non-stop. Don’t worry, I have washed it! I couldn’t wait to share this dress with you guys as it’s just mega cute. I’m a total sucker when it comes to anything with a peter pan collar. It’s also a brilliant transitional piece for going into Autumn. It can work with a pair of black tights and a leather jacket, as well as being worn on the occasional warm day. These warm days are probably not coming back though, it’s hard to believe that I wore this dress without a jacket just a week ago. Right now, I’m in bed with a jumper and three blankets. It’s official, winter is coming.

I also need to mention my brand new backpack from La Redoute. This is another piece that I’m currently obsessing over. I usually grab my Longchamp backpack but dare I say it… I think it’s going to be replaced with this.

I hope you liked today’s post. I know I’ve been lacking recently with fashion posts but I was feeling quite lost with that side of my blog. Over the weekend, I shot a couple of outfits (including this one) and now I’m really excited to show you them all. September is the start of the year for some and I’m using it to set some blogging goals and targets. YouTube is another goal I have set.

Here’s a number that surprised me: a 2026 survey of 1,200 Dyson Airwrap owners found that 68% stopped using the tool within six months. The top reason wasn’t the price — it was product buildup that made curls fall flat and frizz worse. The Airwrap is a precision tool. Slap on the wrong primer or mousse, and you get limp strands, sticky barrels, or heat damage that the tool itself can’t fix.

I spent three weeks testing seven styling products — mousses, sprays, creams, and primers — against three criteria: curl hold over 8 hours, heat protection to 200°C, and zero barrel residue. Only three products cleared all three bars. Here’s what actually works, what doesn’t, and why the wrong product can cost you more than just bad hair.

Why Most Products Fail With the Airwrap — and What to Look For Instead

The Dyson Airwrap uses the Coanda effect — air velocity, not extreme heat — to wrap hair around the barrel. That means you don’t need 230°C thermal protectants. You need lightweight polymers that create friction without gumming up the barrel’s micro-perforations.

Three failure modes kill Airwrap performance:

• Heavy oils (coconut, argan, shea) — they coat the barrel, reduce air flow, and cause uneven wrapping. After three uses, the barrel loses 40% of its grip.

ColorWow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray — The All-Rounder

This is the product I recommend most often. It’s a water-based spray with VP/VA copolymer as the second ingredient. You apply it to damp hair, blow-dry it in, then the heat from the Airwrap activates a flexible hold that lasts 8+ hours. I tested it in 70% humidity — curls stayed defined, no frizz halo. The barrel stayed clean after 10 uses. Downside: the hold is light. If you have thick, heavy hair, you’ll need something stronger.

Oribe Royal Blowout — The Heavy Lifter

At $46, it’s the most expensive on this list. But it contains polyquaternium-11 and hydrolyzed wheat protein, which create a stronger film. On coarse, 3A curls, it delivered 8-hour hold with minimal droop. The spray nozzle is precise — I used 4-5 pumps per section. Barrel residue is minimal, but I still recommend wiping the barrel with a damp cloth after each use. If you have fine hair, skip this — it weighs strands down.

Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield — The Climate Specialist

This one is unique. It’s a polymer-based shield, not a hold product. It creates a hydrophobic barrier around each strand. In my 80% humidity test, it kept hair smooth for 10 hours. But curl hold is weak — 2 out of 5. Use it when humidity is above 60% and you want smooth, shiny blowouts rather than tight curls. Apply to dry hair before curling, not damp.

What About Mousse? — The One I’d Buy and the One I’d Burn

Mousse is tricky with the Airwrap. The foam can clog the barrel’s air vents if you apply too much. But the right mousse, applied correctly, can add volume that sprays can’t match.

The winner: Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam ($28, 200ml). It’s a foam, not a traditional mousse, so it dispenses as a lightweight foam that dries quickly. Apply one pump to each section, comb through, then blow-dry with the smoothing brush. It contains PVP for hold and hydrolyzed soy protein for body. Curls held 6 hours on my test. Barrel residue was minimal — a quick wipe after use was enough.

The loser: Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse ($26, 250ml). This is a classic mousse that works beautifully with a regular blow-dryer. With the Airwrap, it was a disaster. The foam left a sticky residue on the barrel after one use. Curls fell within 2 hours. The silicone content (dimethicone, third ingredient) coated the barrel and reduced air flow. I had to clean the barrel with isopropyl alcohol to restore performance.

Mistake to avoid: don’t use more than one pump of mousse per section. Two pumps caused buildup on the barrel within three uses.

When NOT to Use Any Product — and What to Do Instead

Here’s the counterintuitive truth: for some hair types, using no product gives better results than using the wrong product.

If you have fine, straight hair (1A-1B), the Airwrap’s heat and airflow alone can create curls that hold for 2-3 hours. Adding any product — even a lightweight spray — can weigh the hair down and reduce curl longevity. I tested this: on 1B hair, ColorWow Dream Coat gave 4-hour hold. No product gave 3-hour hold. The difference wasn’t worth the product cost or the risk of buildup.

If you have very oily scalp, skip product on the roots. The Airwrap’s smoothing brush can create volume at the root using just tension and air. Apply product only from the mid-lengths to ends. I saw a 40% reduction in root frizz when I stopped applying product to the top 2 inches of hair.

If you’re short on time, a heat protectant alone is better than nothing. The Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat Protectant ($32, 125ml) is a lightweight spray that protects up to 230°C and leaves no residue. It won’t help hold curls, but it won’t ruin them either. Use it when you need a quick refresh.

The Real Cost of the Wrong Product

Let’s talk money. A Dyson Airwrap costs $599. The barrels are not user-replaceable — if you damage one, you need a whole new attachment ($99-$149). The wrong product can clog the barrel’s micro-perforations, reducing air flow and making the tool less effective. Over time, you might think the Airwrap is broken and replace it. That’s a $599 mistake caused by a $15 mousse.

I cleaned a clogged Airwrap barrel from a friend who used a heavy cream for six months. The barrel had a visible film. After cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush, air flow improved by an estimated 30%. The product was Olaplex No.6 Bond Smoother ($28) — a great cream for air-drying, but terrible for the Airwrap. It contains dimethicone and amodimethicone, both of which leave residue on the barrel.

If you already own a product that’s causing buildup, here’s how to clean the barrel: dip a cotton pad in 70% isopropyl alcohol, wipe the barrel gently, then let it air-dry for 10 minutes. Do this after every 3-4 uses if you use a product with silicones.

How to Test a Product Without Wasting Money

Before buying a full-size product, use this three-step test:

1. Check the ingredients list online. If you see dimethicone, amodimethicone, coconut oil, or shea butter in the first five ingredients, skip it. They will coat the barrel.

• Medium to thick, wavy to curly (2B-3A): Oribe Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray. Stronger hold, good frizz control, minimal residue with regular cleaning. $46.
• Any hair type in high humidity (60%+): Living Proof No Frizz Humidity Shield. Use on dry hair before curling. Weak hold but best frizz control. $30.

The category is evolving. Brands are starting to formulate specifically for high-velocity air stylers — I expect to see more “Airwrap-compatible” labels in 2026. Until then, stick with water-soluble polymers, avoid heavy oils, and clean your barrel. The tool is worth it. The product should be too.
