Impulse spending and shopping – check your temperament
Anything that says change, can cause stress and takes effort. In order to keep your energy flowing while minimising stress, focus on the change you can make for yourself that is within your control. When you know you need to make changes to spending behaviours, the first step is to identify triggers that deplete your energy and personal resources and cause impulse shopping. Each time you head out the door, remind yourself of your tempo.
Mood
Emotions and moods often deplete your energy resources acting as triggers to impulse shopping. Some moods can colour any price tag with rose coloured stickers, and irrespective of price make it look like a great deal. Start to identify moods that affect shopping and spending behaviour: distracted, tired, hungry, sad, happy and find ways to avoid going to the shops during those periods that will cause impulse spending.
Occasion
Do you impulse buy for specific occasions like traditions and holidays? Does shopping with a specific friend lead to unplanned spending? Everybody spends over Christmas, etc. however, for these times that you must spend, you should have a specific budget set aside for irregular and seasonal expenses. In this regard, it is safer to keep your money safe from yourself by investing in stocks & shares ISA where you do not have the actual money but an investment instead.

Place
Do you have a weakness for a specific store? Are arts and crafts stores your favourite or do you love home improvement stores? Are there specific cities that trigger your impulse shopping? Identify these and try to avoid them by limiting the opportunity to venture to these stores or cities. If you must go, limit yourself by keeping your cards at home and taking just enough cash.
Environment
Are there specific environments that cause you to spend more or you feel obliged to spend simply because you are there? For example, malls, home shows, crafts fairs, away on business, etc. in these instances too, save yourself from yourself by making sure your credit card cannot be used or your money is safe in stocks, etc. and untouchable.
Time of day
When you have more energy, you will enjoy shopping much more. On the other hand, when you have a lot of energy you are much less stressed, and this enables you to think clearly and make wiser decisions thus limiting the chances to buy on impulse.
Clever ways to tie up your funds
- You might control your tempo, but a little additional help to tie up your money would go a long way.
- Set up your account that you cannot make withdrawals online or electronic banking, if you are forced to go to an ATM you will spend less.
- Do not keep your credit cards with you, lock them in a safety deposit box.
- Lower the limits on your overdraft and withdrawal limits on ATM cards.
- Move savings to an account or financial institution that you cannot access.
- Set up two accounts that separate savings from routine transactions and day to day expenses.
Swimwear Saviours for Winter Sun at Simply Beach
It may be November but I’m talking about Swimwear! Even if it is pretty Baltic outside, I’ve got you covered for swimwear if you’re heading on a Winter Sun break or just looking for something new for a trip to the Spa! I’ve always hated shopping for swimwear. There has been many times that you would have found me in a department store’s fitting room in tears that nothing would fit. I’m quite short, average build with big boobs. The high street is quite terrible when it comes to finding something that doesn’t make me look like either a Glamour Model or ages me by 30 years! It’s taken me a while but I’ve finally found some swimwear saviours at Simply Beach which I am currently obsessed with.
Simply Beach is an online swimwear website which is home to many different designer brands such as Melissa Odabash, Seafolly, Stella McCartney and many more. It’s the brand Pour Moi who have caught my attention recently and I’ve picked up a couple of items which I really love. Pour Moi’s tagline is to “Love Every Body”. They aim to create flattering swimsuits for a range of shapes and sizes.

Black Escape Rope Swimsuit*
The first two items are Swimsuits from Pour Moi and they are both in the Escape Rope Style. I’ve gone for one Black and White swimsuits as they are both just classic styles. The white swimsuit is double lined and I can safely say they are high-quality pieces so there will be no seen through incidents. For reference, I’m a 34E and aside from the tropical bikini, I picked everything up in a size 12. I’ve found that the lace-up style makes it so comfortable to adjust whilst still showing off a little bit of skin and being secure! I’m really happy with these pieces and can’t wait to wear them on a beach somewhere hot – hopefully soon!

Tropical Reef Bikini Top* // Tropical Reef Bikini Bottoms*
The next item I picked up was also from the brand Pour Moi and it’s a bikini in the Reef style. I’m not sure if you can tell from my bedding, that I’m a big fan of anything tropical print. This bikini is a perfect match for my bedding! I got the swimsuits in a Size 12 but this bikini is carried in a C-G cup size so I got this in a 34E and it fits perfectly! I’d have preferred high waisted bottoms option but these are still pretty flattering!

Ted Baker Scallop Swimsuit*
Finally, I thought I’d also share this swimsuit from Ted Baker. I was unsure whether this would suit or even fit me as I also got this in a Size 12. It ended up fitting perfectly and although the mesh cut out detail isn’t something I would usually go for – I’m really happy with how it looks. I think the scalloped detailing is so cute and the swimsuit has shaping technology to flatter your shape and give you support.
All my Swimwear bit’s came in a big Simply Beach box which you can optionally add to your order. I thought this was a really nice touch. I’ve decided to keep all my swimwear in this box so it’s all together in one place. Overall, I’m so pleased with my new items from Simply Beach. It’s always a bit stressful swimwear shopping but as I said Pour Moi is one of my go-to favourite brands. Also, I was pleasantly surprised with Ted Baker too! I’d highly recommend both brands if you’re a similar shape to myself and struggling with what’s on the high street!
Styling Last Years Wardrobe for This Seasons A/W Trends
As I’ve said a lot recently, Autumn has arrived! The Autumn/Winter season is well and truly underway and as with all seasons, the trends are changing. I do try and keep up with all the different fashion trends so I thought we could talk about recycling our Autumn/Winter wardrobe to fit this season’s trends. CT Shirts, retailers of Charles Tyrwhitt Oxford shirts, have had a little look and seen what’s hot for men and women this autumn-winter, perfect if your shopping for yourself or buying for your other half!
Styling menswear
One of the biggest trends of outerwear was shearling — the style of suede and wool combined in one garment. And, it’s back this year. In fact, I’ve finally invested in a shearling jacket which I’ll be sharing on the blog very soon! Giorgio Armani mixed up the textures further with shearling, suede and leather jackets that looks smart yet cosy for the colder months.
The next trend is a bit like marmite, I think it’ll very much split opinions. This season designers have been throwing back to the 90’s. You might’ve thought you’d seen the back of shell suits and full tracksuits, but they’re back with a vengeance. On the catwalk, Prada completed the look with branded bucket hats and lightweight waterproof jackets. To be fair, this probably work in the Autumn weather but at a push this should be left for festival season.
Another garment that comes out year after year is the leather jacket. Instead of the shorter bomber style though, this season it’s all about oversized leather coats that can be paired with slim-leg jeans and winter boots. Fendi, Balenciaga and Paul Smith were all rocking the look during their AW18 shows this season.
When it comes to colours, it’s autumnal brown that’s in this season, a colour you’re bound to have knocking around in your wardrobe. For Autumn, it’s a colour that’s never going to go away. From brown men’s suits to oversized ponchos and shiny leather jackets, the brown colour palette is so versatile.
A trend which has really taken off is layering up. It’s all about bringing together different garments in an effortlessly stylish sort of way. You might not have worn a V-neck in a few years or since the 90’s when Chandler Bing was reppin’ in them but bring it out this year and slip it on top of a roll-neck jumper for an on-trend outfit. Other ways to layer include pairing an open checked shirt with a graphic t-shirt and black skinny jeans.
Styling womenswear
Similar to the menswear trends, layering is on-trend ,with designers such as Balenciaga showing their support of the fashion technique at their shows. If you’re bold enough, the best way to layer is with contrasting colour and textures. Dig out you metallic puffa jacket from last year and wear it over a fringed jumper. I love Autumn as you can really dig out all your knitwear and get ever so cosy layering up.
Animal print was a big part of this season’s shows. While Victoria Beckham demonstrated her love for leopard print, other designers such as Isabel Marant were all about snake patterns. I think we all know how much I love Animal Print. I’ve always been a big fan of leopard print but I’m also getting into the whole snake pattern too. The great thing about this style being in trend is that you can mix and match animal print and still create an outfit that looks well put together.
I’ve never been one to shy away from wearing anything sparkly and this season all the glitz and glam is coming out to shine. Paco Rabanne showed off their models in oversized silver sequins that brought some much-loved sparkle to the runway. Don’t wait until Christmas and New Year’s to bring your glitter dresses out of the wardrobe, embrace them in October and November too!

Oversized and chunky knit is back for the colder seasons too. The great thing about this year’s trends though, is that you can pair your grandad knit with your summer dress and still look on-trend. There’s a massive selection of Womens Sweaters online and on the high street and it’s not hard to get the runway look. Miu Miu showed off an outfit that was made up of a green floral midi dress and fluffy grey knit. No need to pack away your summer clothes just yet!
Cosy Jumpers & Studded Boots
I’m back with another outfit post for you. It’s like buses, nothing for a couple of months and they all come at once. As I mentioned before, I love wrapping up for Autumn in cosy jumpers and boots. The dark nights are drawing in with the clocks going backwards, it’s officially cold outside.
I popped into Matalan last week and they have some lovely jumpers in at the moment. I picked up this black jumper as I thought the embroidery and pearls were super cute. I love a good slogan jumper and this one is a staple item for this Autumn. I paired it with my Topshop Jamie Jeans which I literally wear every single day and my new studded boots from a brand called Lily Lulu. I’ve never owned chelsea boots before but I love that these have a studded detail making them a little bit edgy.
Another new addition for today’s outfit is my new bag from Topshop. For months now, I’ve gone in-store and seen that there has been so many gorgeous little shoulder bags. After being really lucky and receiving some gift cards for my Birthday, i decided to treat myself to one. This black and silver studded bag goes perfectly with the Chelsea Boots and it was only £29. Not only do they go so well with the boots, it’s just one of those pieces which goes well with any outfit. It snugly fits everything that I need on a day to day basis.

What’s you go-to Autumn look? Have you got any new additions to your wardrobe this season?
